J.-C., les \u00e9missaires de Mahomet arrivent dans la r\u00e9gion, et convertissent la population \u00e0 l&rsquo;islam.<\/p><h6>Conqu\u00eates europ\u00e9ennes<\/h6><p>Au XVI<sup>e<\/sup>\u00a0si\u00e8cle, alors que les grandes puissances europ\u00e9ennes se disputent le contr\u00f4le de l&rsquo;oc\u00e9an Indien, les Portugais luttent contre les populations arabes de Julfar et d&rsquo;autres ports dans le Golfe. \u00c0 l&rsquo;int\u00e9rieur des terres, de grandes familles commencent \u00e0 prendre le contr\u00f4le de diff\u00e9rents \u00e9mirats. \u00c0 cause de sa puissance, la famille des Qawasim attire notamment l&rsquo;attention des Britanniques, voulant s&rsquo;assurer le contr\u00f4le des routes de commerce.<\/p><p>Au d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 1790, une branche des Bani Yas, les Al Bu Falah, s&rsquo;installe \u00e0 Abou Dabi, alors sous le pouvoir d&rsquo;un cheikh de la famille Al Nahyane qui appartient aux Al Bu Falah. Peu apr\u00e8s, en 1833, une autre branche de la tribu des Bani Yas, s&rsquo;\u00e9tablit sur Khor Duba\u00ef (\u00ab\u00a0rivi\u00e8re de Duba\u00ef\u00a0\u00bb), instaurant ainsi la domination des Al Maktoum dans cet endroit.<\/p><h6>\u00c9tats de la Tr\u00eave<\/h6><p>Apr\u00e8s la d\u00e9faite des Qawasim, en 1820, les Britanniques signent une s\u00e9rie d&rsquo;accords et de trait\u00e9s avec les cheikhs de chaque \u00e9mirat de la c\u00f4te du Golfe, celui de 1853 garantissant l&rsquo;arr\u00eat de la piraterie contre les navires britanniques, d&rsquo;o\u00f9 le nom des \u00c9tats de la Tr\u00eave.<\/p><p>En 1892, un nouveau trait\u00e9 \u00e9rige les \u00c9tats de la Tr\u00eave en protectorat et les fait entrer dans l&#8217;empire colonial britannique.\u00a0 le Royaume-Uni garantit la protection des \u00c9tats de la Tr\u00eave contre toute attaque maritime ou terrestre.<\/p><p>Cette p\u00e9riode de calme permet \u00e0 l&rsquo;industrie perli\u00e8re de prosp\u00e9rer \u00e0 la fin du XIX<sup>e<\/sup>\u00a0si\u00e8cle et au d\u00e9but du XX<sup>e<\/sup>\u00a0si\u00e8cle.
